I have never really investigated much in to AppEngine, since it up until now was a python thing only.

Besides, scaleability can be done other ways and still keep the advantages of php.

But I do welcome the addition of php in AppEngine.

Exactly, AppEngine for PHP is coming a bit late in the PAAS game.

Now we have AppFog and others which are more flexible and mature than AppEngine is now for PHP.

Anyway, more competition in this sector is good to pull the prices down.
